Similarweb vs Ahrefs

Similarweb and Ahrefs both put a number on a competitor's traffic, but they build it differently. Similarweb models visits across every channel from directly measured analytics, a contributory network of consumer products, partners and public data. Ahrefs adds up estimated Google clicks for the keywords a site ranks for.

Prices, checked 7 October 2026: Ahrefs is Lite $129, Standard $249 and Advanced $449 a month, with a $29 Starter plan. Similarweb's self-serve plans start at $125 a month billed yearly ($199 monthly). Neither tool's traffic number is exact: in the one recent head-to-head test we could open, average errors against Search Console were 48.63% for Ahrefs and 56.95% for Similarweb, though the write-ups don't say which metric from each tool was compared.

Which should you pick?

Pick Similarweb if…

  • You need to see where a competitor's visitors come from across every channel, not just search.
  • You're sizing a market or comparing big sites, where its rankings hold up better than its totals.
  • Strategy, sales or investors will use the data too.

Pick Ahrefs if…

  • You need to know which keywords and pages bring a competitor Google traffic.
  • You track your own rankings, audit your site or research backlinks.
  • You want the keyword-level view, which Ahrefs says is much more accurate than its traffic total.

Where LaunchRanked fits

Disclosure: LaunchRanked is our product. Where we list it, we say so, and we place it under the use case it fits rather than at the top by default. Everything else here is from the vendors’ own sites or our research, and we say where they’re better.

LaunchRanked isn't an SEO suite or a traffic panel. We have no keyword database, backlink index or visitor panel, and we're not a substitute for either tool. For your own site, neither beats Search Console and your analytics, which count real clicks and visits.

For a quick, free look at any domain, our website traffic checker estimates Google organic traffic from rankings, by country (data: DataForSEO). It's a model in the same family as Ahrefs' number, so read it as a range. If what you actually want is content published and existing pages fixed, Autopilot ($49/mo, founding price) publishes 30 articles a month and rewrites titles and snippets on pages ranking on page 1–2. Done-for-you (from $999/mo) runs the whole playbook.

Frequently asked questions

Which is more accurate for organic traffic, Similarweb or Ahrefs?

Neither wins consistently. Against Search Console in a 2024 test of 184 sites, average errors were 48.63% for Ahrefs and 56.95% for Similarweb (the write-ups don't say which metric from each tool was compared). In a 2016 test of 25 sites the two were equally far off in total: +17% for Similarweb, -17% for Ahrefs. They also measure different things, so compare each tool with itself over time rather than with the other.

Why do Similarweb and Ahrefs show different organic traffic?

Similarweb models visits from a panel and partner data and counts unpaid search clicks from search engines as one channel. Ahrefs adds up estimated Google clicks from the keywords it tracks. Different inputs, timing and failure modes mean the numbers rarely match.

Does Similarweb show traffic for small sites?

Not below about 5,000 visits a month: its platform shows no number when a site's latest month is under 5,000, and it says it is more confident above 100,000. In a 2016 test, almost every estimate from Similarweb, Ahrefs and Semrush for the three sites under 10,000 organic visits was at least 40% off.

Can I use either tool for my own site's traffic?

You can, but you shouldn't. Ahrefs says its number is an estimate, not actual search traffic data, and Similarweb says it doesn't expect its estimates to align exactly with your analytics. Use Search Console for Google clicks and your analytics for visits.
