AI SEO agent
AI SEO agent: what it can do today, and where it stops
An AI SEO agent takes an SEO goal, uses tools such as keyword data, Search Console and your CMS, and does the steps. Today that works for planning, briefs, drafts, checks, publishing and reporting. It cannot promise rankings or earn links alone.

What the term means
Agent or workflow? Most SEO jobs fit a workflow
Anthropic draws the line this way. Workflows are "systems where LLMs and tools are orchestrated through predefined code paths". Agents are "systems where LLMs dynamically direct their own processes and tool usage". It advises adding agentic systems "only when simpler solutions fall short".
In those terms Autopilot runs as a workflow: fixed stages (plan, research, write, check, publish) with a model inside each, so every step can be checked. SEO Skills works as an agent: your assistant chooses which of our tools to call next, over MCP, "an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems". Both are AI SEO agents in the sense most people mean, and both end at the same quality checks.
What it can do
Seven jobs an AI SEO agent handles today
Plan topics. Search volume, difficulty and intent from keyword data, minus topics your site already covers. Both forms.
Brief each article. What ranks now, the questions people ask and your own pages to link. Both forms.
Write and check. A draft, then length, source, link and duplicate checks. Autopilot rewrites a failing draft; with SEO Skills your assistant fixes it and checks again.
Publish at a safe pace. To your CMS under a daily cap, and a failing draft is refused. Both forms.
Fix titles on pages that already rank. New titles and descriptions for pages at positions 3 to 20 that get fewer clicks than expected. Autopilot only.
Track AI answers. Asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude 25 questions every two weeks (Perplexity and Gemini during the trial). Autopilot only. Google AI Overviews aren't covered.
Audit live pages. Read-only checks of indexing, page speed, sitemaps, structured data, broken links and AI crawler access, from any connected assistant with a free account. A coding agent can fix what they find and check again.
Where it stops
What an AI SEO agent can't do
Guarantee a ranking. Google says "No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google."
Know facts it wasn't given. Generative models "predict a likely sequence of words", so output can be wrong, and Google asks you to "manually factcheck and review" it before publishing.
Earn links on its own. Autopilot finds pages that link to your rivals and drafts the outreach. You send it. Google lists automated link creation as link spam.
Run unsupervised. Anthropic warns of "the potential for compounding errors" and has agents "pause for human feedback at checkpoints". Autopilot waits for your approval by default; with SEO Skills you choose how much your assistant asks first.
See every answer. AI answers change between runs and between people, so tracking is a sample, not a census.

Try the free part first
Connect LaunchRanked to your assistant (setup guide) and ask it to audit one page. The checks are read-only and free with an account. A free account also gets 2 content plans, 10 keyword lookups and 2 briefs a month, enough to see how your assistant uses them. Publishing needs SEO Skills or Autopilot.

FAQ
AI SEO agent questions
What is an AI SEO agent?
Software that takes an SEO goal, calls tools such as keyword data, Search Console and a CMS, and carries out the steps with checks along the way. Some are fixed pipelines and some let a model choose its own steps. Some people call it agentic SEO.
Can an AI agent do SEO on its own?
It can do the repeatable steps: planning, briefs, drafts, checks, publishing and reporting. It cannot set your positioning, interview customers or guarantee results. Autopilot waits for your approval before publishing by default.
Which AI assistants work with SEO Skills?
Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and other MCP clients such as Windsurf and VS Code. The writing tools aren't in ChatGPT yet, though ChatGPT can run our free page checks.
Autopilot or SEO Skills?
Pick by who writes. Autopilot writes for you and adds images, title fixes and AI-answer tracking: $49/mo. SEO Skills is $9/mo: your assistant writes, and there are no images, title fixes or tracking. Autopilot includes the SEO Skills tools.
Does an AI SEO agent track Google AI Overviews?
Ours does not. Autopilot tracks whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude name your site. For Google AI Overviews, the free AI Overview checker shows whether one keyword has one and who it cites.
