How to use it
- Describe what happens in the video and what it’s about.
- Add your niche and the words people would search to find a video like it.
- Copy the set, or swap tags in from the alternatives. Search each one in TikTok first: the videos already using a tag tell you whether yours belongs there.
What TikTok says about hashtags
| What | Rule | Source |
|---|---|---|
| How they're used | Hashtags, with captions and sounds, are video information TikTok's recommendation system uses | TikTok Newsroom: How TikTok recommends videos |
| What counts most | A strong signal, like someone watching a longer video to the end, gets more weight than a weak one | TikTok Newsroom: How TikTok recommends videos |
| Followers | Follower count isn't a direct factor in recommendations | TikTok Newsroom: How TikTok recommends videos |
| Length | Hashtags are part of the caption and count toward its 2,200 characters | TikTok Content Posting API |

Put together: hashtags help TikTok and searchers understand what a video is about, and TikTok weighs them alongside how people actually respond to the video.
Why we leave out #fyp
- It describes TikTok, not your video. #fyp, #foryou and #viral are attached to videos about everything, so they tell the recommendation system and searchers nothing about yours.
- TikTok doesn’t mention them. Its own explanation of the For You feed talks about interactions and video information, not special tags.
- Specific tags do the job. #ProteinIceCream and #NinjaCreamiRecipe say exactly what the video is.
Honest limits
These are suggestions from a language model, not TikTok data, so they can include tags nobody uses. Check each one in the app. For the caption itself, use the TikTok caption generator, which removes filler tags the same way.
