There’s no single definition: tools and agencies count different interactions and divide by different things. Compare a video with your own earlier videos using the same formula, not with someone else’s number.

How to use it

  1. Copy the video’s likes, comments, shares and saves from TikTok. Shorthand like 48.2K works.
  2. Enter its views, and your follower count if you want the rate by followers too.
  3. Untick any interaction you don’t want counted, to match the formula a report or brand uses.
  4. For several videos, enter the totals and the number of videos.

The formulas

  • By views: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100. A common choice for TikTok, because every video’s view count is public.
  • By followers: interactions ÷ videos ÷ followers × 100. Comparable with Instagram numbers worked out the same way, but it can run high when a video reaches far beyond your followers.

Why tools give different numbers

Some tools leave out saves or shares. Some divide by followers. Some average the rate across videos, others divide total interactions by total views. Each choice moves the number, so we show the formula next to every result and let you untick what a report leaves out.

A high rate on one video tells you what people responded to. Write the next caption with the TikTok caption generator, and compare like with like over time.

Questions

How do you calculate TikTok engagement rate?

Add up a video's likes, comments, shares and saves, divide by its views and multiply by 100. That's engagement by views. Dividing by your followers instead gives engagement by followers. The calculator shows both, with the sum written out.

Why divide by views instead of followers on TikTok?

TikTok recommends videos by what each viewer is likely to be interested in, and it says follower count isn't a direct factor in those recommendations. A video can be watched mostly by people who don't follow you, so views describe the audience that actually saw it.

What's a good TikTok engagement rate?

There's no official benchmark, and published averages depend on the formula and the accounts measured. Compare a video with your own recent videos using the same formula.

Are my numbers sent anywhere?

No. The calculator runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to us or stored.
