Where to submit a developer tool: 71 directories
Developer tool directories are read by engineers looking for a library, CLI, service or platform to solve a specific problem, often right now. They skim for what the tool does, how to try it in five minutes and what it costs when usage grows. Link to documentation and a quick-start rather than a marketing homepage, and include a code snippet if the directory allows one. Engineers look for signs a project is maintained: a recent release, a changelog, an issue tracker that gets answers. Open-source lists and GitHub-based directories count here too; they often send the most engaged visitors. For paid dev services, say what the free tier covers in real units (requests, seats, builds), since that decides whether someone tries it today or bookmarks it for never.

DR is Domain Rating by Ahrefs: a 0–100 score of a site’s backlinks, higher is stronger. It isn’t a Google metric. Tranco rank is a research top-sites ranking: lower means more popular. How we check each directory
How to prioritise
- Dev tool directories where engineers compare tools, linking to your docs.
- Open-source and GitHub lists, if the tool or an SDK is public.
- Launch platforms popular with developers, timed with a release.
Questions about this list
Should I link directory listings to my docs or my homepage?
To the docs or a quick-start, when the directory lets you choose. Engineers want to see the API or CLI before they read benefits. Make sure the docs page has a clear sign-up link for the hosted version.
What free-tier details should a dev tool listing include?
Real limits: requests per month, seats, build minutes, projects, data retention. “Generous free tier” tells an engineer nothing; numbers let them decide whether it fits their project.
Are developer directories good for SEO links?
Some give followed links, many don’t, and GitHub-based lists are nofollow. Check the link type for each directory above. Their bigger value is engaged visitors who may star, try or recommend the tool.
Which of these directories give a dofollow link?
45 of the 71 had a followed (dofollow) listing link when we checked: GitHub Marketplace, Laravel News, Open VSX Registry, Package Control (Sublime Text), Svelte Society, Jamstack.org and 39 more. Directories change their link policy, so check your own listing once it is live.
