Where to submit an API: 32 directories

API directories and marketplaces are where developers search for a data source or service to call from their code: payments, maps, weather, email, AI models. Some are catalogues that link to your docs; others are marketplaces that handle keys and billing and take a share. Developers decide on a few facts: what the API returns, authentication method, rate limits, pricing per call and where the docs are. An OpenAPI specification makes listing easier on many directories and lets developers try calls straight away. A sample request and response in the listing does more than a paragraph of benefits. If you offer SDKs, list the languages. Uptime and status pages matter to teams putting an API into production, so link yours.

DR is Domain Rating by Ahrefs: a 0–100 score of a site’s backlinks, higher is stronger. It isn’t a Google metric. Tranco rank is a research top-sites ranking: lower means more popular. How we check each directory

How to prioritise

  1. API directories and marketplaces that import an OpenAPI spec.
  2. Developer tool directories, linking to your API reference.
  3. Category directories for your data type (finance, geo, AI).

Questions about this list

Should I list my API on a marketplace that handles billing?

It can bring developers who don’t want another account, but the marketplace takes a share and owns part of the customer relationship. Many providers list there and also sell directly; check the terms on pricing parity first.

What does an API listing need?

Base URL and authentication method, rate limits, pricing per call or plan, a sample request and response, docs and status page links, and SDK languages. An OpenAPI file covers much of this.

Do API directories check that the API works?

Some test the endpoints or the spec; others only check the docs link. Either way, have a free tier or test key available so reviewers and developers can make a first call without talking to sales.

Which of these directories give a dofollow link?

15 of the 32 had a followed (dofollow) listing link when we checked: APIs.io, Public APIs, Free Public APIs, PublicAPIs.io, GitHub Marketplace, Svelte Society and 9 more. Directories change their link policy, so check your own listing once it is live.
