About Threaded

Threaded is a digital studio for cross-stitch and needlepoint enthusiasts who want to stitch their own photos. Upload an image, choose your canvas size and fabric count, and Threaded generates a gridded pattern. It reduces the image to a manageable set of colors and matches each shade to real floss from 49 thread brands, including DMC, Anchor, and Madeira. Built-in editing tools (magic wand selection, shapes, text, fill, and an eyedropper) let you refine the design before you stitch. Threaded also gives exact stitch and skein counts plus a named-thread legend, so you know what to buy. When you finish, export the project as a single PDF with a cover, thread key, and clean symbol charts, ready to print and start stitching.

The story behind Threaded

Why did you build it?

Cross-stitch and needlepoint software is mostly desktop apps and clunky PDF generators. Threaded puts the whole pattern-making flow in the browser: upload a photo, get a stitchable chart with colors matched to real thread, refine it, and print a clean PDF.
