Free Keywords Everywhere alternatives (2026)

Short answer: Keywords Everywhere's volume data isn't free. It costs from $84 a year for 100,000 credits, and the free parts are prompt templates and social insights. The closest free alternatives are Keyword Surfer, a free Chrome extension that shows search volume beside Google results; Google Keyword Planner, which is free but needs a Google Ads account with billing details; and Ahrefs' free Keyword Generator, which its own guide says shows volume and difficulty for the top 100 ideas and 50 questions per search. Keywords Everywhere is a browser extension (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) that shows search volume, CPC and competition on Google and other sites, with 12-month trends and historical volume back to 2004. Its API and MCP server share the same credits. Plans are annual only: Bronze $84, Silver $168, Gold $480 and Platinum $1,440 a year.

A free Chrome extension by Surfer that shows search volume, keyword ideas with an overlap score, CPC and estimated traffic next to Google results, with data for 70 countries. Surfer calls it free forever. It's a Chrome extension and a research aid, not an API.

Google Keyword Planner: free, from Google

Estimated monthly searches and the cost to target a keyword, straight from Google Ads. It's free to use, but Google says you must finish your account setup, including billing information, to reach basic features such as keyword ideas. Very low-volume and sensitive keywords aren't shown.

Ahrefs Keyword Generator: free volume and difficulty

Enter a seed and Ahrefs' guide to its free tools says you see the top 100 keyword ideas and the top 50 related questions, each with search volume and a Keyword Difficulty score, for Google, YouTube, Amazon and Bing (the tool page itself says 100+ ideas). It runs on the web, so there's nothing to install. The same guide lists a free difficulty checker and SERP checker.

Semrush free account: 10 reports a day

A free Semrush account gets 10 reports a day across its tools, 1 website and 10 tracked keywords. That's enough to look up a few keywords, not to research a topic cluster. A 7-day trial of the paid plans needs a card.

Moz free account: 10 keyword queries a month

Moz's free Community account includes 10 Keyword Explorer queries a month, 10 competitive research queries and 10 backlink queries, with no saved keyword lists. Fine for an occasional check, too tight for regular research.

Your own data: Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools

Search Console shows the queries your site really appears for, with impressions and clicks. Bing Webmaster Tools has a free Keyword research tool with Bing search volume and trends once your site is verified, which you can import from Search Console.

How many credits does a Google search use?

One credit buys the volume, CPC, competition and trend for one keyword. A Google search that shows 8 related keywords, 20 People Also Search For keywords and 25 long-tail keywords uses 54 credits, so Bronze's 100,000 credits cover about 1,850 such searches (our arithmetic).

Are keyword volume numbers accurate?

They're estimates, and different tools disagree. Use them to compare keywords, not as promises of traffic, and check any decision in a second tool. For your own site, Search Console impressions are the real number.

What about Ubersuggest?

Ubersuggest offers a free limited version and a free keyword research tool. We couldn't find the free limits stated on its pricing page, so check them before you rely on it.

Do I need keyword research if I use Autopilot?

Not for Autopilot itself: it plans from your Search Console data. Keyword tools are still useful for exploring new markets.
