Product description generator for directory listings

Fill in what your product does once. Get the three lengths directories ask for: one sentence, about 50 words and about 150 words.

The model only uses facts you give it. Leave out anything you can’t back up.

Three versions appear here: one sentence, about 50 words and about 150 words, with word and character counts.

Why you need three lengths

Every launch site and directory asks for your product description in a different box. Some want one line for a card, some a short paragraph, some a full listing. Product Hunt, for example, asks for a description of up to 260 characters (their help page). Writing each one from scratch at submission time is how listings end up inconsistent and rushed. Write three versions once, keep them in a doc and paste the one that fits.

  • One sentence (≤160 characters). Product name, what it does, who it’s for. This is your card text and your fallback for any short field.
  • About 50 words. Adds how it works. Most “short description” fields fit this.
  • About 150 words. Problem, solution, key features and audience. For full listings and your launch page body.

What makes a listing description work

People reading a directory are comparing. They want to know what category you’re in, what you do differently and whether it’s for them. So lead with the plain job (“groups support tickets into a weekly bug list”), name the audience, then give one or two concrete features. Leave adjectives like “powerful” out: they take space and say nothing.

Consistency matters too. When your name, one-liner and category read the same across listings, people who see you twice recognise you, and you’re not left with conflicting descriptions of the same product.

How the generator works

We send your inputs to Llama 3.3 70B on Cloudflare Workers AI with strict rules: third person, present tense, only the features you listed, no invented numbers or integrations, and no vote requests. We check the lengths ourselves and flag any version outside its target. If the first try misses, we try once more and keep the better result.

Before you submit

  1. Read each version for claims you can’t back up and cut them.
  2. Pair it with a short tagline from the tagline generator.
  3. Keep all three versions in one doc with your logo and screenshots, so each submission takes minutes.

Questions

Should I paste the same description into every directory?

Use the same facts everywhere, but it's worth varying the wording a little. Identical text on dozens of sites adds little for readers, and your own site should have the most complete version. Start from these drafts and adjust the opening line per site.

Why third person?

Directory and launch listings read like a catalogue: "Ticketlens groups support tickets…" fits next to other listings, while "We built…" reads like an ad. Keep the first-person story for your maker comment or launch post.

What if a directory has a different limit?

Check the form before you paste. If a field allows 260 characters, the one-sentence version usually fits and the 50-word version may not. If it asks for 300 words, start from the 150-word version and add a short feature list.

Which model writes these, and is my input saved?

Meta's Llama 3.3 70B Instruct, an open-weight model, on Cloudflare Workers AI. We don't save what you type or what it writes. It only knows your input, so it can't check whether the claims are true; you can.
